Yericho Trip: A Visit to the House of Rahab – Rabbi Israel Yakobov
This week we had the merit to visit Jericho, the first city that Bnei Israel conquered under Joshua’s leadership after the Exodus from Egypt. Joshua sent two spies, Pinchas and Caleb, to obtain firsthand information as to how the Canaanites were viewing the upcoming invasion. The spies came to the house of Rahab, near the gate of the city of Jericho. Rahab had heard of all the miracles that G‑d had performed to protect the Israelites in Egypt and throughout the 40 years of their wandering in the desert. She asked the spies to promise to save her and her household in the coming invasion. Rahab converted to Judaism and eventually married Joshua. She is considered as one of the righteous converts.
