One of our subscribers asked us how to take away ayin ha’ra or evil eye. The Gemara brings a solution for evil eye, and you can learn how to do it yourself after watching this short video by Rabbi Israel Yakobov. However, it wouldn’t hurt to add an additional, general note about ayin ha’ra:
The concept of evil eye is recognized in Judaism, and it is best avoided by behaving in a humble manner and not flaunting our wealth, success, and other gifts and blessings. Our Sages said that whatever that is hidden will remain blessed. In addition, it is important to know that ayin ha’ra is not necessarily brought upon us by someone who harbours negative feelings about us. The Maggid of Mezritch teaches that sometimes ayin ha’ra happens when someone genuinely admires us but we (or they) fail to see and recognize that whatever blessing we have, is coming from G-d. When we praise something but fail to recognize that it is all from G-d, we are essentially separating it from its Divine source and attributing it to ourselves, and that is what brings evil eye.
